On November 26, 2022 in Gicumbi District, Northern Province, Commissioners &staff of the Commission together with various institutions and Civil Society Organizations joined the population of Gicumbi District in planting 12.000 trees with the purpose of environmental protection for human rights.

At the same occasion, the Commission launched the human rights week which was marked by different human rights awareness activities engaging the community in promoting human rights under the theme "Dignity, Freedom and Justice for all".

The Chairperson of the Commission highlighted the relationship between human rights and climate change and encouraged the engagement of the Commission's stakeholders in the promotion and protection of human rights.

The launch of human rights week in Gicumbi District was also a good opportunity to promote the activism against Gender Based Violence.
